It will be a great event. We were going to have some questions. But we dont have any microphones. So [ laughter ] just a little issue there. So i think what we should probably do is to wrap this up, but, mr. President , i would like to ask you, invite you to say any final words about the Vice President or about anything you would like at this point. Well, i think what we did together was historic. Its changed the basic structure of the executive branch of government to bring the Vice President in as a full partner with the president. That had never within dobeen do. I think the reason it was successful was that every expectation that i had for that partnership was never betrayed by mr. Mondale. I dont think we ever had an argument during the years, which was better than the relationship between me and my wife. [

[ applause ] the constitution has a framework thats set up not as some kind of result of bureaucratic haggling, but as something is designed to protect, promote freedom. And the president is right. In many way, we are a shining city on a hill. But the hard truth is that not everyone is sharing in this citys slender and glory. A shining city is perhaps all the president sees from the port ko of the white house and the ver randa of thiz ranch, where everyone seems to be doing well. But theres another city. Another part to the shining city. The part where some people cant pay their mortgages. And most young people cant afford one. Where students cant afford the education they need and middle class parents watch the dreams they hold for their children evaporate. In this part of the city, there are more poor than ever. More families in trouble. More and more people who need help, but cant find it. Even worse. There are elde

Shock to the system. Electronicsmaker toshiba expects record losses and plans major job cuts globally. And the paper crane made by a 12yearold victim of the hiroshima atomic bombing carry her wish to the u. S. 70 years after the war. A search and rescue operation is under way in Southern China after a massive land slide slammed into an industrial park. Authorities havent reported any deaths but say more than 90 people are unaccounted for. They believe the cause of the disaster is linked to construction work. The landslide happened on sunday in the shenzhen in guangdong province. 33 buildings were buried. Authorities say some 900 residents have been evacuated and 91 people remain unaccount for. Chinas land and Resources Ministry blames the collapse of piles of earth dug up from construction sites. State media says the storage of waste soil is subject to inspection by authorities.
