As I listened to Jesuit Fr. James McDermott read the Passion from the Gospel of Mark this Palm Sunday, I closed my eyes and my imagination took me back to late December 2019, when I had the opportunity to visit Jerusalem and parts of Israel.
I was there to be a member of the interreligious jury for the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival. We formed a small jury, including Benjamin Freidenberg, a Jewish film professor from Jerusalem, and Kamal Hachkar, a Muslim filmmaker from Marrakesh, Morocco.

From the desk of Wendy Kalman, AIC Intern, Kennesaw State University:
The Atlanta Israel Coalition is excited to announce our partnership with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) in promoting a letter-writing contest called
The Letters Project: Conversing Across Narratives based on Yossi Klein Halevi s book,
Letters to My Palestinian Neighbor: With an Extensive Epilogue of Palestinian Responses.
I am excited too. And let me tell you why.

When I first read about this book, I was intrigued by the idea of explaining Jewish presence to Palestinians. Klein Halevi created an opening. And when the paperback version was published months later, I was excited. It included responses from those Palestinian neighbors. (I even blogged about the book s potential Words and Letters.)
Who did I depend on when telling the story of Israel
the place and the people in this extraordinary year? Who stood invisibly behind me, whispering a fresh insight, an incisive analysis, an unforgettable story, while I taught on distance learning platforms? Each of the gifted men and women listed below, who were invaluable in my work of bringing Israel and the global Jewish people to the scores of classrooms we reached virtually in 2020.
But there is another audience they impacted, an audience of one. Me.
In a year when travel to Israel was all but impossible, their work sustained me on the days I needed it the most.
