Govt facilitates faster imports of key medical devices amid COVID-19 spike ANI | Updated: Apr 30, 2021 21:03 IST New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): The Centre on Friday decided to facilitate faster imports of key medical devices by relaxing the conditions for clearances under Legal Metrology (Packaging Rules 2011). Considering the present pandemic situation of COVID-19 and for meeting the demand of medical devices, the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Government of India has permitted the importers of medical devices to import medical devices for three months from April 28 onwards, the government said in a statement. The importers are subject to the condition that the importers shall make all declarations required under these rules immediately after import/custom clearance and before sale by way of stamping or putting sticker or online printing, as the case may be.

Concentrators are used to provide oxygen to ease difficulty in breathing, as they extract concentrated quantities of oxygen from ambient air. The exponential rise in Covid-19 infections has lifted the demand for this medical equipment.
