Of emergency or due to following government recommended coronavirus related precautions. And to invoke those protections under the ordinance that im introducing, tenants must notify the landlord of their inability to pay full rent and provide documentation to support their claim. I want to point out that nothing in this legislation relieves the tenant from being liable for the unpaid rent. The landlord may take other actions after all of this is over. The ordinance also bans landlords from collecting late fees for rent, if that rent is delayed. It will ban other types of evictions during this state of emergency with very limited exceptions in the midst of this state of emergency. We as a city cannot allow residents to be forced from their homes. Really, the goal of this legislation is to make sure this Public Health crisis doesnt also create a whole newhousing crisis in the upcoming weeks and months, and be secure in being secure in ones home is absolutely essential, and it prevents th
Also think carefully and thoughtfully about what the right answer is and try really hard to get to what is actually good for the city. And you have been personally so helpful to me and gracious and willing to share your knowledge and advice and support in tough times. And so i think supervisor ronen called you a class act, and i completely agree. And i think youre fantastic. Supervisor peskin. I will do my best to stand up as my hip is giving out. But that is my style. Vallie brown, because i knew you originally as vallie brown long before i knew you as supervisor brown, in, as i said, this morning at the transportation authority, in many incarnations. Vallie had a lifelong before she came to city hall which we learned about along the way but worked for two remarkably tough bosses. And i want to say did not learn any of their lessons, because she treated her staff and all of her colleagues and everybodys staff with profound respect. That is my suggestion. Supervisor fewer. Considering, i find myself to get in trouble on election night, i am wondering if we could actually the first timr considered that. Wondering if theres an option to actually not have a meeting that week and find another date to have a meeting. So im wondering if my colleagues wouldnt mind continuing this item or could we so that we could actually just speak among even our as a representative aids for example and to see what a better option might be. So i think i would like to have more time. This is just sprung on me now so im kind of thin
Supervisor stefani. Thank you, president yee. Vallie, i first met you, what, in 2007 when we both started as legislative aids, and im not going to name names but theres something about working for elected officials that makes one a stronger person, i believe. Im probably going to say that to my staff as well. It was clear then as it is clear now that you came to this work with a deep understanding, love and appreciation for your community. And you came as a neighborhood activist Getting Started in your neighborhoods, founding the Lower Haight Neighborhood Association and lower haight merchants association, knowing the value of neighborhood activism. And we all heard the stories of you out there picking up trash in the neighborhood. And that stuff matters. That matters to people. For decades, you have worked behind the scenes to bring real results for the neighborhoods and for the city. And youve done it without ever seeking the spotlight, and i think thats something thats absolutely tr
