8 arrests made, thousands of marijuana plants seized amid multiple searches in High Desert Victorville Daily Press Several individuals from the High Desert, San Bernardino and Mexico were arrested during the serving of search warrants at six illegal cannabis grows in the Victor Valley, according to sheriff’s officials. The searches began at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, with San Bernardino County sheriff’s investigators seizing 5,043 marijuana plants and 48 pounds of processed marijuana over the course of the day. The warrants were served by the sheriff department’s Marijuana Enforcement Team and deputies from the Victor Valley Station. The suspects, who were cited on suspicion of illegal cannabis cultivation, included Phelan resident John McCandless, 67, in the 6900 block of Buckthorne Road in Phelan, Victor Valley station officials said.

New Mexico State Police have identified the Torrance County deputies who shot and injured a man last month in Bosque Farms. State Police spokesman Dusty Francisco said Torrance County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jordan Duran and deputy Pablo Arreola shot 28-year-old Joshua Francis of Oklahoma on March 16 following a chase that began in Mountainair. After Francis recovered in the hospital, Francisco said he was charged with two counts of aggravated battery upon a peace officer. He has been booked into the Valencia County jail. He said Francis called 911 around 2 a.m. to report that he was holding a woman hostage at the Rock Motel in the Town of Mountainair and wanted to die in a shootout with police.
