Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the deployment of additional operatives of the Amotekun Corps to Ibarapaland.
The move is part the government’s security strategy for that zone following the meeting held with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapaland which was attended by security stakeholders including the recently appointed Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko.
Giving details on the new strategy in a release on Wednesday, Governor Makinde stated that “We have resolved to redeploy 200 members of the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in the state, especially in the Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun zones. These operatives will launch missions to rid the forests of criminals. They will be presenting daily reports of the activities to me in the short run and periodic reports in the long run.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that his government would deploy additional personnel to Oke Ogun and Ibarapa parts of the state in a bid to combat kidnapping and other activities of bandits.
Makinde gave the indication in a post on his Twitter handle on Wednesday.
Shedding light on the strategies to follow, he listed strict enforcement of Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019; registration of foreigners and deployment of additional operatives of Amotekun Corps.
The governor stressed that the state would collaborate with the federal security agencies, saying, “Our administration will continue to support the police and other federal security agencies posted to the state in the discharge of their duties.”

Makinde’s action followed a meeting held with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapa land on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by security stakeholders, among whom was the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko.
The meeting was as a result of the attack on Fulani settlement in Igangan after Sunday Igboho visited the area on Friday, being the deadline for his quit notice to the herdsmen, whom he accused of killing, kidnapping and raping indigenes of the area.
In a statement on Wednesday, Makinde said his government had come up with a security strategy for that zone.

SOME farmers in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State have appealed to Governor Sryi Makinde to sign the Anti-Open Grazing Bill already passed by the House of Assembly into law.
The President, Igangan Agro Park Investment Association, Mr Oluwafemi Abioye, made this appeal in an interview with our correspondent in Ibadan on Tuesday.
He said the bill, Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation, was passed by the lawmakers in October 2019 and added that more than a year after its passage, the governor had yet to sign it into law.
He said the killing of a farmer, Dr Fatai Aborode, was the latest loss of life suffered by the farmers in the area, saying his life had also been threatened by the herdsmen.
