Covid-19: Kamala Harris says US determined to help India in hour of need

Asserting that the welfare of India is critically important to the US, Vice-President Kamala Harris on Friday said Washington is determined to help New Delhi in “its hour of need” amid a Covid-19 surge in the country.
Addressing an event, Harris said that the surge of Covid-19 infections and deaths in India is nothing “short of heartbreaking”.
“As many of you know, generations of my family come from India. My mother was born and raised in India. And I have family members who live in India today. The welfare of India is critically important to the United States,” she said, while addressing the event titled: ‘Bolstering US Covid-19 Relief Effort in India: Perspectives from the Diaspora’.

Washington DC [US], May 4 (ANI): The United States Department of Defense has said that the final two flights of COVID-19 aid salted for India have been delayed and will reach at least until Wednesday. US Transportation Command on Monday said that the delay is due to maintenance issues.
This comes as India registered a slight dip in COVID-19 cases as it registered 3,68,147 new coronavirus infections and 3,417 related deaths in the last 24 hours, informed the union health ministry on Monday morning.
On Sunday, a flight from America carrying 1.25 lakh vials of an anti-viral drug Remdesivir landed in India.
