A statement from the NHS said it was expected that over-80s and eligible care home residents will all immunised by now. The NHS is asking those over 80s who haven’t been offered.

102-year-old Cockermouth woman joins Covid jab queue

A 102-year-old has become one the first people to received the Covid vaccine in Cockermouth. Isobel Morgan, a resident at the Dalton Care received her jab last Tuesday and was excited about getting it. She is now one of 2.600 people to be vaccinated in the town. Castlegate and Derwent Surgery practice manager Julie Bates said 1,130 people were given the Pfeizer vaccine on Friday and Saturday. Staff have also been taking the Oxford Zeneca vaccine into care homes. They have also vaccinated health and social car workers as well as dentists, opticians and carers. However, the next planned sessions for a second Pfizer clinic has had to be cancelled because the surgery has been told that the vaccine is not available at the moment.

Situation in Western province improves with dip in positive cases

by Suresh Perera The Covid-19 pandemic in the Western province is now under control with small but manageable clusters emerging from time to time which is inevitable in a situation where society is ‘open’ with people getting about their day-to-day chores, a senior health official said. The number of positive Coronavirus cases have dipped to a daily average of around 500 with the Western province contributing only about 20% to 30% to the overall figure, says Dr. Hemantha Herath, Deputy Director of Public Health Services. With figures relating to positive cases now static, there’s an improvement in the situation in the province.
