However, the number of active cases consisted of 2.02 per cent of the total tally as active cases dropped to 2,11,033. On Friday, as many as 15,590 COVID-19 cases were reported in India.
Vaccine beneficiaries must rest for an hour, advises government

New Delhi, Jan 16: All beneficiaries of the vaccine against COVIDD-19 have been asked to rest for an hour after getting vaccinated.
The Health Ministry said that all vaccine sites have three marked areas for waiting, vaccination and observation. After one gets the jab, it is advised that they do not leave the site immediately as the effects of the shot, if any will be monitored at the vaccine site. Covid-19-appropriate behaviour, including the wearing of masks and social distancing, is to be followed, the ministry also said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine said that citizens should not fall for rumours. He said that citizens should not fall for propaganda or rumours over the vaccines.

Chennai, Jan 16: Tamil Nadu on Saturday rolled out the COVID-19 vaccination drive at 166 sites across the state with a government doctor here becoming the first to be administered the shot.
Chief Minster K Palaniswami said everyone, including him should get vaccinated, but priority, however, was only for frontline workers such as the doctors and health workers.
Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) president Dr K Senthil was the first to be administered the vaccine in the state at the Government Rajaji Hospital premises in the presence of Palaniswami, his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials. Everyone should for sure get vaccinated. You and I have to get vaccinated. Those from your and my family too should get the vaccinated, Palaniswami told reporters here after the roll-out of the vaccination drive pan-India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kochi, Jan 16: Receiving the first shot of COVID-19 vaccine in this southern port city, renowned cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr Jose Chacko Periyappuram on Saturday hailed the country s efforts to wipe out the novel coronavirus and said he felt comfortable after the vaccination.
Dr Periyappuram, who performed the first successful heart transplant in Kerala, urged people to not fall prey to the false propaganda unleashed on the social media against the global effort to end the pandemic. Some people have some misconceptions about the vaccination. They are seen carried away by false propaganda unleashed through the social media, he said.
