The Syracuse Orange men’s lacrosse team closed out the 2021 regular season with their most prolific scoring day of the year, putting three touchdowns on the board for a football final score of 21-14 over the
Robert Morris Colonials on Friday afternoon.
That’ll do it from the Dome.
The Orange exploded out of the gates in this one, scoring NINE goals in the opening quarter and 14 in the first half, and never really looking back from that start. In fact, SU got up by three goals late in the first quarter, and Robert Morris never got closer than that the rest of the game.

Syracuse freshman Owen Hiltz, one of several players wearing 1OVE messages on their helmets as teammate Chase Scanlan faced a domestic violence-related charge in court, scored seven goals in a 21-14 win over Robert Morris at the Carrier Dome.
As suspended Syracuse lacrosse star Chase Scanlan faced a domestic violence-related charge in court Friday, his Orange teammates sent multiple messages in a 21-14 win over Robert Morris in their regular season finale Friday at the Carrier Dome.
Several Syracuse players wore athletic tape on their helmets inscribed with the word “1OVE” or showed similar displays in support of the One Love Foundation, which educates young people about abusive relationships.

Owen Hiltz set the Syracuse single-game record for goals scored by a freshman (7), while the attack unit of Hiltz, Owen Seebold
and Stephen Rehfuss combined for 21 points to lead the Syracuse offense to a season-high 21 goals.
Hiltz now has 47 points on the season. Since 1980, just three freshman have scored more points in a season – John Zulberti (74 – 1986), Mikey Powell (70 – 2001) and Casey Powell (67 – 1995). Hiltz is currently eighth on Syracuse’s freshman points list.

For most, the freshman year of college is a difficult time. Between living away from home, meeting new people, and not having home-cooked meals, it can be a struggle. Someone apparently forgot to tell that to Syracuse attackman Owen Hiltz.
If you watched Syracuse (7-5, 2-4 ACC) take on Robert Morris (7-6, 1-0 Independent) on Friday, you would’ve never known the freshman phenom out of Peterborough, Ontario is just 18 years old. Hiltz played like a seasoned veteran, pouring in seven goals and adding two assists en route to a 21-14 win for Syracuse.
Head coach John Desko didn’t just credit Hiltz’s lacrosse ability, but also commended his knowledge of the game. “Hiltz was pretty smart today. He understood their slide package, put himself in spots where he knew his guy was going to slide from, got to the open space, and obviously scored 7 goals today.”
