The symposium, which is sponsored by Firstgas, will feature carvers of all skill levels, from beginner to professional, working alongside each other. “The idea is to get the carvers away from their busy and demanding lives for a few days, allow them to draw from the inspiration of the natural beauty of North Taranaki with its energetic coast, farmland, river and bush, and to just have a great time with like-minded people” Brown said. It will be the fifth time the event has been held. Each year a special guest carver to is chosen to mentor the carvers, with this year Fumio Noguchi, of Nelson, taking the reins, as well as appearances by Owen Mapp and Stephen Myhre of the Kāpiti Coast.
