A STATE-of-the-art inpatient mental health unit could be built at a new location on the Glan Clwyd Hospital campus, after planning permission for a preferred site was refused. In January, an application for Outline Planning Permission on a site to the south-west of the hospital’s grounds was rejected by Denbighshire County Council’s Planning Committee, who cited an unacceptable impact on local residents. The 64-bed unit would have provided a modern replacement for the hospital’s Ablett Unit, which is no longer fit for purpose. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is now examining the possibility of building on the north western corner of the hospital campus, away from local residents’ boundaries.

The Sinn Féin Councillor said, “I am delighted to hear that Belnew Developments Ltd, a registered Newry Company has Outline Planning Permission to build 15 residential social homes in association with South Ulster Housing, just off the Newtown Rd, near McCrink’s Loanin in Camlough.
“Three of these houses will be specifically adapted to meet the need of families with disability access, who have been on the housing list for an extensive period of time.
“The infrastructure of McCrink’s Loanin will be improved and adapted to facilitate this new development.
“It is hoped there will be very few issues with regards to getting full Planning Permission, and that the building of these homes will commence in the very near future.”
