christmas. people weren t fully engaged. they were preoccupied. it was a slow response. you should see the outer burroughs. there are still this morning streets that look like this. and it was a tale of two cities when you go from this scene all around new york to what was happening in new jersey where mayor of newark, new jersey, cory booker, well, he looks like the antithesis, the opposite of michael bloomberg right now. he was out shovelling out cars himself. he was delivering diapers himself. all the while he was tweeting to his more than one million followers and you must read some of these tweets. again, this is the mayor. the guy that s been on conan o brien s show numerous times out in the storm until 2:00 this morning helping people out. yeah, he says his twitter feed has been a direct life line. look we ve seen twitter feeds before helping in haiti, getting things where they need to be. people responding and telling them where they need help. here s one tweet that he got.
these people stranded at j.f.k. 10,000 flights, it s estimated, were delayed as a result of this and we re learning now that a lot of these people that are still stranded in new york could have to wait until the new year to get home. right. so you can imagine that the anger could boil over like it has there in moscow. we don t normally handle things that way by rioting. you can imagine if you re stranded at an airport without being able to get out, at some point right now, we figured people looking despondent and sleepy as though they ve given up. at some point, it could tip to anger. you don t know. that could be a vision of things to come but i don t know that well, sure, maybe to work here, too, to get your luggage off. here s the deal, new york response has been criticized for being incredibly slow. of course, yes, this was the sixth largest snow storm in new york s history. still, though, where are the snow plows? look at these streets. people say that the outer burroughs, bro
laguardia airport this morning. thanks. appreciate it. a british airways flight sitting on the tarmac all morning is reportedly headed to a gate. the flight arrived from heathrow airport in london last night. several tweets say the plane has found a parking spot and passengers are closer to finally getting off. the tweets from the passengers. so that s a pretty good source. and keep in mind they d already been on a transatlantic flight before the seven-hour delay. he d written earlier, it s a brief wait for immigration and we should be on our way. he said maybe i was tempting fate by saying that because we are still on the plane. so hopefully they will be de-planing shortly. meanwhile, many new york residents, especially those living outside of manhattan and the outer burroughs.
that s what happened to nearly 500 subway riders across the city of new york yesterday including our next guest. courtney thorpe joins us on the phone. she couldn t make it into manhattan this morning. she was still stuck in one of the outer burroughs. good morning. good morning. what an ordeal you experienced yesterday. just a recap. you were trying to fly to poland to be with your fiance and his family. but your plane, of course was canceled because of the snow storm. you tried to return home. youen you ended up getting stuck on a subway for eight hours. tell us about this trip. so, it was a very long day. i didn t think twice about taking the air train or taking the subway. it s what i normally do to get back from j.f.k. and generally, i ve had great, great, great luck with the mta, i ve never been stuck before. so i do see this as sort of a
suicide. he wasn t a terrorist this was not part of a largest terror plot that was the scare of course but this man confessed to police and convinced them he was actually trying kill himself not to cause any problems for anybody else. of course he was brought into custody. now we re told he will not be charged but some very tense moments about 5:30 this morning on a subway tunnel leading from manhattan out into the outer burroughs here in new york city. back up to you guys. patti ann: all right rick folbaum, thanks. now to a possible risk to our national security. in days the world expo will get under way in shanghai china and there is a fear that other countries could spy on americans at this event. stealing information and even recruiting new intelligence sources. catherine herridge has more from washington. why such a big target for espionage? reporter: much more than a fear. former senior intelligence official we ve been speaking to over the last couple of days have said this eve
