Chuck Haga: Recalling those beacons of faith on the prairie
Some aging churches have been kept up by a dedicated few parishioners, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of founders. The buildings are still “beacons of faith on the prairie” as another reporter called them in a lovely, respectful piece nearly 20 years ago.

For me, the holiday season always brings churches to mind, even in this virus-dominated year when parish doors were often closed or dark worry altered the mood in the spaced-out pews.
