Smithville post crowning achievement for 30-year law officer
Much like the opportunity to run the Smithville Police Department, the new job “unexpectedly presented” itself, said Funk.
“I tend to look at the job in Smithville as my crowning achievement in law enforcement,” Funk said. “I enjoyed my time working there. I got to step into the chief’s role and do things the way I thought a chief of police should do things.”
Funk agreed to stay on as Smithville’s police chief through the end of February to ensure a smooth transition with Barnett, who is the village s first female police chief.

ORRVILLE Tiffany Lamb last saw her friend Jadea Jarvis around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday leaving Lamb’s home in Smithville.
The 25-year-old mother of two had decided once and for all she was leaving the father of her children. Lamb had offered her a place to stay. Jarvis just needed to return to her apartment at the French Village to pick up a few items. No longer would she suffer domestic abuse.
“She was supposed to come back. She was supposed to stay here, to stay safe,” Lamb said. “She didn’t make it.
Two hours after she left Lamb’s home, police found Jarvis lying in a pool of blood in the parking lot outside her Orrville home. Her ex-boyfriend, Kenneth Crenshaw, was standing over her. He was holding a gun.
