Smithville post crowning achievement for 30-year law officer
Much like the opportunity to run the Smithville Police Department, the new job “unexpectedly presented” itself, said Funk.
“I tend to look at the job in Smithville as my crowning achievement in law enforcement,” Funk said. “I enjoyed my time working there. I got to step into the chief’s role and do things the way I thought a chief of police should do things.”
Funk agreed to stay on as Smithville’s police chief through the end of February to ensure a smooth transition with Barnett, who is the village s first female police chief.
