Wilderness Land Trust secures access to Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks trail

Transfer of land to Bureau of Land Management funded via Land and Water Conservation Fund. LAS CRUCES - On a visit to Doña Ana County Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., went for a hike on the Achenbach Canyon Trail, which leads into the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument.  The access point off of Ladera Canyon Road has been crossed by hikers visiting public lands for years, despite it sitting on privately-owned property. On Wednesday, however, the nonprofit Wilderness Land Trust reported it had secured a purchase of the property with plans to turn it over to the federal Bureau of Land Management.

Ramos: Welcome back, Las Cruces Public Schools students Ralph Ramos I am so excited to welcome the entire Las Cruces Public Schools community back to school this coming Tuesday. In a typical year, I would be writing this in August, but the past year has been anything but typical! We have redefined the word “resilience” and it has been a year full of learning new ways to learn. Finally, we get to reopen all school building doors and have students sit at a desk for the first time in over a year. It is important to note that we are coming back together after a long period of isolation and will be engaged in learning inside a classroom. Coming together again in person is important, but what is even more important is that we acknowledge and respect the fact that we are not who we were when we left our school buildings last spring. We are also providing opportunities for students to learn remotely, continuing this new wave of learning for all kids. We have grown so much in a single
