as a political matter, no. as a matter of justice, it should. and the president, george w. bush? well, we don t know how much bush knew, but cheney was in the weeds on this and he knew a lot. and cheney today, in various interviews going around and saying, no, all of the nonsense that he didn t tell the president, he knew, he knew what was going on. and brennan basically today said, that we were naughty and we learned our lesson, and we should look forward now. that is going to stop the next cia director from ordering torture, and you can imagine the cia guys saying, under bush they got away with it, and why not do it again? and it is striking how much the argument justifying it partly because of the torture memos are so discredited and fishily repudiated by the office of justice, that the legal operatives are so despised by the people in the legal community, that they have a brute argument about the torture that the brute legality, but it worked.
