But if the governor probably has it his way the kids could be back in the classrooms as early as late july, the governor says theres been a noticeable learning loss, especially in many homes that dont have internet and whenever that happens. Its more prevalent and communities of color. And hes noticed that as best as the parents are trying to homeschool its still not the same as the teachers in front of the kids physically in the classroom and in some cases, the parents are not even home b
Many are getting ready and city and local officials are warning people the power outage could last for days. Power will be likely shut off for thousands in Alameda County alone including in the Oakland Hills because of red flag weather and high fire danger. It is an unprecedented move. This is a first. Thhave received notification of a planned power outage. I will say it is good to have some warning rather than no warning. It could take up to five days for pg e to get the power up which the mayor said would be devastating. Five days without electricity is acceptable for our committee. Theres a possibility they could restore power sooner. That depends on how quickly they can inspect lines and re energize those lines. Reporter the Oakland Police chief said the department is beefing up its ranks. All sworn officers with days off are canceled and starting this evening with our entire Investigative Team assigned and in uniform. And outage will close 12 schools. Grass valley, howard, parker,
Power shut off. How they plan to keep running safely. Schools are also shutting down, uc berkeley is among those shutting down. The scope of this power shut off is unprecedented but so are the catastrophic wildfires we have seen in recent years. Pg e is set to pull the plug on 800,000 homes and businesses starting just after midnight. It will begin to our north and then roll south across the bay area as the day progresses. More than 200,000 of those pg e customers are in the bay area. The outages are happening in eight of the nine bay area counties. Only San Francisco is exempt.
