so it was only donald trump that was trying to shield some of these things from the grand jury. we know that the justice department went into the court and asked a judge to get past those privilege concerns and went all the way up to the appeals court and they won. so they were able to breakthrough trump s claims of privilege because of course, this is a criminal investigation and clearly, the courts believe that this was the right way to do this. so you can bet that, you know, it does give you a bit of a road map of where we expect the vice president is going to be able to go with his testimony. so prete, game this out for us. we just played that clip of the former vice president saying that the select committee has no right to his testimony as evan mentioned he revealed some key details in this new book that he just published. so how do you think this is ultimately going to play out? i m actually hopeful that there s going to be a negotiated
penls pence and moving up the ladder with the pence office and at the same time this newly appointed special counsel who is overseeing those investigations. yeah, we know that the out reach from the justice department happened before jack smith was appointed in the recent weeks and so look, i do think that there is a way for that kind of negotiation to happen and what prete described is what i understand the sides are looking to try to reach. the one wild card here, of course, is the former president who has gone to court repeatedly to block testimony. i m sure he s going to try to do that again but, the hopeful side here if you re the justice department is that the courts here in d.c. s the appeals court show they can handle these things and work through them with relative ease. it s not exactly quick but quicker thachb a lot of people i
potential indictment. how far along might they be at this point at the special counsel stepping in? you know, so i don t know because i haven t seen the grand jury presentations of course but think there is a difference between the investigation of the mar-a-lago documents and the overall investigation of the interference with the peaceful transfer of power. with respect to the march -a-la documents, it s an easier case and more cut and dry. less complicated, fewer facts, fewer witnesses, more direct law on point. i think that s probably much closer to the resolution and a decision than the much more sprawling january 6th investigation of donald trump and a lot of other people. i wouldn t expect something about that case for quite sometime. thank you, prete. that s really interesting. jennifer, i want to ask you is this going to delay things? because of course, politically speaking, a lot of people on the sort of democrat side are screaming my goodness, how long
