factors bringing us dangerous situations like threatening flooding, life-threatening mudslides. we will see debris flow from those areas where we saw severe wildfire. it was a terrible wildfire season. it will help with this rain, but we have more before that. we have three factors. a bomb cyclone that is moving onshore. what this means, it is a big word, but is it is a strong, powerful system, you will see a 24 millibar pressure drop in 24 hours. that is what we will see, along with atmospheric river, a plume of moisture, almost like a hurricane, where you see those rivers of water coming in. that is the second thing. then, we have the those scarred, burned areas. let s look at heavy rain, already. we see heavy rain this morning, it will last through tonight. we will see better conditions tomorrow, we expect this rain to continue into tuesday. this is what it looks like on radar. you see darker colors in northern california, this will be the bull s-eye for this really dangerous weathe
let s start with the story that is about to impact about 40 million people. hurricane henri is threatening with damaging winds, storm surges, flooding and power outages. the storm could crash into long island or southern new england sunday at or near hurricane strength. in kansas could lose electricity because of the storm and people are being told to prepare for the worst. let s go now and get the latest on where the storm is headed to tyler who s tracking henri from the cnn weather center. good evening, tyler, so what s the latest? hey. we re seeing showers and thunderstorms beginning to pop up on radar. you can see the outer bands moving north. companies are going to go downhill in the northeast and new england, as we get past midnight. right now henri is a
for severe weather as well. many factors go into place today. here are stats, 115 miles per hour, category 3 storm, bumped back up overnight. we do expect it to weaken back to category 2. again, semantics, it s restrong. not moving quickly but not 2, 3, 4 miles an hour. we expect it to pick up quickly after it leaves the outer banks. this is what it looks like on radar, simone talking about tornado warnings. we re glowing to see that throughout the day. when you think about a hurricane, it s like a bag, everyone it needs for tornadoes, supercells, warm air, wind shear. that s why it can spawn it quickly. they are usually rain wrapped so very hard to see at times. look at the line, almost like a train of thunderstorms coming through. that lightning, we will be watching it closely throughout the day. stay alert when it comes to
we ll see that move off. i want to show you this graphic here. when we talk about hurricanes we think of wind and rain. we don t often think about storm surge because i think it s hard to picture what storm surge is. just picture it as water. it s a wall of water that gets pushed on shore. we could see a storm surge 18 to 23 feet above what is normal for this time of year. we could see rain, 12 to 24 inches. possibly 30 inches in some spot. we ll see the sustained period. that s remarkable. we ll have to really think about that over the next several days and pray for a lot of the residents there. this is what it looks like on radar. we have the heavy rain around it. we have lightning and the thunder we re hearing and seeing the power outages. where you see this red is the hurricane force winds. we re seeing that extending about 30 miles. look at that. right over the islands right now. they are getting truly battered. if you see any video you ll know
