This Mother’s Day, I’m asking myself tough questions about what it means to be a mom, a woman and a climate advocate in this critical cultural moment. After 20 years of working at the intersection of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and environmental conservation, I find there is still a strong hesitancy among some SRHR and climate advocates to link reproductive rights and climate. The episode begins with a bang as we learn that Agatha’s past extends all the way back to the late 1600s where she was put on trial by her coven, including her mother, for practicing a darker form of magic, but as they attempt to use their powers to smite her down, she is able to absorb their energies and lifeforces, leaving them all as dried-out corpses and taking the character’s iconic pendant off her mother’s dead body.
How Social Movements Can Make Durable, Wider and Definite Contribution to Creating a Better World
Social movements have a very important role in society, a role that has to assume even more significance if our deeply troubled world has to find a way out of the survival crisis in which it is entangled very badly at the moment. Of course we are here talking of only sincere movements, and not of those movements which are merely fronts of various narrow interests. However even sincere and honest social movements have to function in a situation of several uncertainties and confusions in the present day complex world. In such a situation how can we ensure that social movements definitely make a positive contribution, and contribute in more durable and wider ways?
