Cut. The state water board approved the new regulations yesterday. They are going to go into effect on june 1. Now, on average, it is a 25 reduction in water use statewide. And in march, overall water reduction was a mere 3. 6 so the state water board has approved new regulations. This is about preparing for a drought that we now know can go beyond what we have seen in this century. Reporter the penalties for wasting water could be up to 10,000, although it is not clear yet how those fines will be imposed. Here are some of the local cities and districts with the lowest conservation standards. They include San Francisco Public Utilities commission, city of hayward, redwood city and the California Water Service Company of south San Francisco. On the other end of the spectrum the town of hillsborough has a conservation standard of 36 . The standard is 32 for the city of vacaville and the los altos suburban district.
