(WDAM) - Citizensâ pennies have been at work in the city of Hattiesburg for two years. In April of 2019, voters approved a 1% sales tax on hotel, motel and restaurant payments by an overwhelming margin of 81%. Since then, the initiative has generated a total of $2,342,447.63. More than $2 million has been spent on parks and recreation projects. Mayor Toby Barker says the tax and associated projects are all things residents expressed a need and want for.

(WLBT) - Jackson city leaders say a resolution included in its 2021 legislative wish list could take away a major point of contingency surrounding the cityâs one-percent infrastructure sales tax. As part of its legislative agenda, the council has approved a resolution asking for a more concrete definition of the term âmaster plan.â That resolution will be given to the Jackson delegation, who will likely craft legislation to be introduced during the 2021 session. City leaders say the current definition of âmaster planâ is too vague, and according to the resolution passed, âhas led to disagreements between the special sales tax commission and the governing authorities of the city.â
