JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The city of Jackson is seeking a one-percent sales tax hike to help it address its water and sewer system needs.
The council voted to approve a resolution at its Tuesday meeting and will now be forwarded to members of Jackson’s legislative delegation.
Local lawmakers need the resolution in order to introduce a tax request bill as local and private legislation.
Jackson seeks more concrete definition for âmaster planâ By Anthony Warren | December 29, 2020 at 5:51 PM CST - Updated December 29 at 5:51 PM
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson city leaders say a resolution included in its 2021 legislative wish list could take away a major point of contingency surrounding the cityâs one-percent infrastructure sales tax.
As part of its legislative agenda, the council has approved a resolution asking for a more concrete definition of the term âmaster plan.â
That resolution will be given to the Jackson delegation, who will likely craft legislation to be introduced during the 2021 session.
City leaders say the current definition of âmaster planâ is too vague, and according to the resolution passed, âhas led to disagreements between the special sales tax commission and the governing authorities of the city.â
