biden s plea sdael gets brought back from near death. attorneys for the president s son and federal prosecutors struck a more limited deal after disagreement over what crimes the immunity agreement covered. joining me now is a member of the house freedom caucus, republican ken buck of colorado. thank you so much for joining me. you re also a former federal prosecutor. so looking at what is happening, still happening as we speak, in a courthouse in delaware, away are your thoughts? my naught is the judge does the right thing. in this case the judge has to inquire about the basis for the plea agreement and make sure all parties know what s included in the plea agreement. and the result was they called a time out. the prosecution and defense attorneys met and clarified and responded to the judge. the judge was on top of this. everything has to go right in a case like this. what does it tell you that the doj prosecutors in there
evidence this story is carrying weight with the the voters that will decide elections. but when it comes down to the house proceeds, as he balances the right wing of the conference versus what those very endangered members are going to deal, that s going to be the calculous. do they see this as having political benefit for them with the broad base. the other point is does it rally democrats around joe biden. if you think joe biden, who is not a necessarily beloved figure among democrats, was sort of the person they wanted in 2020 because they thought he could beat donald trump, does this have a rallying effect like it did on the other side. that s a really good point. just going back to the political land mines here for any impeachment inquiry for the very few moderate republicans who are still in the house, but every seat matters when you have a four-seat majority, but also if
attorneys are in court after agreeing to a slimmed down agreement covering tax crimes, drug use, and gun possession. it follows the near collapse of the deal. let s go straight to capitol hill and manu raju. what are you hearing from lawmakers? reporter: republicans and democrats still taking in all of the details. many of them are in hearings and catching the news as it s ub folding by the minute. the house committee, i talked to some of the members who are focused on what s going on now in the hearing room. but the question for the house republicans is how they plan to explore and dive into this plea agreement that seems to be back on again between the president s son and the justice department. they have contended all along that this initial agreement, in their view, was a sweetheart deal. this came from a wide range of republicans on the committee, as well as others in the senate. one of the big questions will be
on how the hunter biden defense team operate d, not just behind the scenes with their negotiation, but their public posture meant they did feel they were in the seat. and we ll see if that blew up in the courtroom. elie honig, relatively speaking, the taxes that hunter biden owed and didn t pay were not that much. maybe for normal people, the $1.1 million and $1.5 million in federal taxes sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but a couple things. one is that those taxes are now paid. actually, standby. i m going to come back to you. i want to get to wilmington, delaware. reporter: so the deal appears to be back on track. after i was just out here, the biden team asked for ten minutes to speak with the prosecution. they were doing that while the judge was off the bench. then after a bit of period, the
drugs and did not qualify to purchase a firearm under federal lu. this is a serious charge and could get up to ten years in prison as a result of that charge. so it s very much in hunter biden s interest to have these two things linked. and what happened is during this court hearing, the judge is a trump appointee, she started pulling a tiny little thread trying to make sure that hunter biden understands what he s pleading to. she pulled at that one thread, and the entire cloth came of came tumbling down because it was clear that the hunt hadar biden legal team had had different understandings of what they had agreed to. now we re in a recess. the judge has asked the two sides to talk about it and to figure out whether there is a deal, or whether there is something else that s going to come from this hearing today. she could simply just tell them to go back and work this out, or
