attorneys are in court after agreeing to a slimmed down agreement covering tax crimes, drug use, and gun possession. it follows the near collapse of the deal. let s go straight to capitol hill and manu raju. what are you hearing from lawmakers? reporter: republicans and democrats still taking in all of the details. many of them are in hearings and catching the news as it s ub folding by the minute. the house committee, i talked to some of the members who are focused on what s going on now in the hearing room. but the question for the house republicans is how they plan to explore and dive into this plea agreement that seems to be back on again between the president s son and the justice department. they have contended all along that this initial agreement, in their view, was a sweetheart deal. this came from a wide range of republicans on the committee, as well as others in the senate. one of the big questions will be
of numbers. then he made an agreement with president biden for the debt ceiling increase on another set of numbers. so right now, he has to convince the public he s credible. and that republicans have a duty to follow him. the party itself is not in agreement. we re going to have some real trouble passing appropriations bills. i want to make sure i understand what you re saying. it sounds like you re saying that the speaker is talking about impeachment to try to distract conservatives like you from spending bill this is you don t like. not just me, but the public. what he s doing is he s saying there s a shiny object here and we re going to focus on that. we need to get all these things done so we can focus on the shiny object. most of us are concerned about spending. it s an existential threat. we want to move forward with the spending bills in a responsible way. do you believe there s any reason why the house republican midgety should open an inquiry right now other than politi

welcome to inside politics. i m dana bash. right now, drama in delaware. hunt e er biden s plea deal is crumbling. defense attorneys are trying to see if they can put it back together. let s go to evan perez what happened? the judge is saying in court to the two sides she has concerns as to whether the two agreements that the two sides had come to terms with, one of them having to do with hunter biden agreeing to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges, failing to pay his taxes on time. and the second agreement having to do with a gun charge, under which the government says they will wipe it away if he agrees to a diversion program, where he satisfies all of the conditions that the court sets out. that goes away. this is him purchasing a gun at the time he was addicted to
the parties is this. when hunter biden was ready to go into court and plead guilty to two tax charges and a gun charge, he was going to be covered for those charges. he would not be charged again in the future for those charges or anything substantially covered by them. but the big question, which apparently the parties have not come to a full agreement on, is when he enters those guilty pleas, is he covered for other conduct? is he covered for potential foreign lobbying violations? is he covered for money laundering violations? we do not know how substantiated those allegations are, that reporting is, but that s the question. how broad is this coverage? the fact that the party did not have that written out and a full understanding on that and went into court today is a failure by both sides. that s why we could see this deal in jeopardy. it s important to note lawyers get together under the gun at the last moment and work things out, and that s what we re waiting to see. the fact that
