The family of a young man who died trying to save a woman from the Thames say they are “overwhelmed” by the support they have received from the public as they held his funeral today.
Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, known as Jimi by his friends, died after diving into the river in a rescue attempt last month. The 20-year-old’s funeral was being held at the Best Way International Christian Centre in south-east London today.
The numbers were limited to 30, because of Covid restrictions, but the event was live streamed. His white coffin with blue flower arrangements spelling out Son was carried in sombrely by pallbearers.

THE family of a hero who died after diving into the River Thames to save a stranger believe rescue teams called off the search for him too quickly.
Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole - known as Jimi - plunged into the waters near London Bridge in the early hours of Saturday after alerting cops to the woman s plight.

The family of a hero who died after jumping into the River Thames to rescue a woman who fell from London Bridge said the search for him ended too soon.
Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, who was known as Jimi, saw the woman fall from the bridge when he was on his way home from work at around midnight on Saturday.
After he dived in, the woman and another man who also jumped in the water to were rescued by the Coastguard and the Metropolitan Police s river unit, but Jimi was not found after a search which called off after more than an hour.
