National City’s Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center will be featured at 9 p.m. Thursday on KPBS-TV with the premiere broadcast of “The Kitchenistas of National City,” a film by Mary Ann Beyster and David Romero.
“Kitchenistas” will also be available to stream free on the KPBS website for 48 hours.
The film showcases the Kitchenistas of Olivewood Gardens, who are graduates of the center’s “Cooking for Salud” program. That program teaches clients how to add healthy lifestyle changes and positive eating habits to overcome diabetes, obesity and other nutrition-related health conditions. By following the lives of the Kitchenistas and their families, the film spotlights the health challenges faced by National City residents. According to the center, National City has one of the highest rates of childhood obesity in San Diego County.
