The body of a man was discovered in a creek by a property owner in rural Lancaster County near Waverly on Saturday afternoon, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff s Office.
Laborers working in southern Lancaster County found 68-year-old Gary T. Lew s decomposing remains in a ditch just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, east of the Olive Creek Lake State Recreation Area.
A farmer had been operating a shredder in Gage County on Sunday when weeds or grass being shredded ignited, kicking off the destructive blaze, according the State Fire Marshal.
Before evacuation orders were even announced Sunday, hundreds of area residents had already started to mobilize — doing what they could to protect their homes and their county, officials said.
