LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic (AP) Segundo Oliva Pinto of Argentina played bogey-free Thursday for a 6-under 66 and shared the lead with Roberto Nieves of Puerto Rico in the Latin America Amateur Championship.
Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira fired a 2-under-par 70 for the third straight round and was tied for the lead after 54 holes. The junior reeled off three pars in a playoff Tuesday afternoon to seal his first career collegiate win. His play helped Arkansas finish runner-up through stroke play at the inaugural Jackson T. Stephens Cup
Thanks to a quick start by Luke Long, Arkansas defeated Ole Miss, 3-1-1, in the quarterfinals of the SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate. The match began Sunday afternoon and concluded Monday morning.
Juan Camilo Vesga improved to 3-0 at the SEC Match Play and led Arkansas to a 3-2 victory over LSU in the semifinals. The Razorbacks will face Vanderbilt for the championship Tuesday morning starting at 9 am.
Wil Gibson and Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira put two points on the board with 5&3 wins. Later, Luke Long, playing in the anchor spot, earned the third and decisive point with a 2&1 victory to give #3 Arkansas a 3-2 victory over #15 Vanderbilt in the inaugural SEC Match Play Championship hosted by Jerry Pate.
