Updated: 9:40 PM EDT Jun 27, 2021 WLKY Digital Team Oldham County will be without its annual Fourth of July fireworks show.Oldham County Judge-Executive David Voegele took to Facebook to address the cancellation. He says the cost of putting on a show is too high and Oldham County Fiscal Court cannot justify paying the price. Voegele says the court struggled with paying for the show when it was just $12,000 but continued to pay the expense anyways.The expected cost for this year s show would ve been $17,000 for a half-hour show, which is unfortunately too much. This decision is based on cost only. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate the greatest nation in the history of the world - ‘land of the free and home of the brave’ - on our Independence Day. July 4th, Voegele added.The news comes as the United States faces a nationwide fireworks shortage.
