Greetings from Capps. My apologies for not having an article last week. I had a surgical procedure on Tuesday and my first exam at Northark on Wednesday ,so it was a very busy week. Thankfully, Fallish weather has arrived and not a moment too soon. The moisture we ve been getting is an added bonus, fire calls over the summer were minimal. Capps Batavia Fire did respond Tuesday morning to a rollover just west of Batavia on Highway 392 but no injuries and another wreck at Highway 65 and 412 on Wednesday afternoon. Our new recruits are close to being fully trained after they finish the 8 hour wildland Fire course. The Homesteaders Swap Meet will be held today (Saturday) at the Capps Mini Storage on Old Capps Road just off Highway 392 West from 9 a.m. to noon. Stand by for news on ongoing Swap Meets in October, not sure yet but may depend on the weather. Thanks to Gayla and her family for putting them on and to her folks for the use of the facility. Greetings from Capps. I do believe this is about the greenest I ve seen the area in mid-August due to the plentiful rains we ve had lately. I m ready to cut hay again now that it s drying out some. Capps Batavia Fire hasn t had many calls this summer, which has been a blessing. We ll do some in house training with our new recruits in September and October. We ve been working very hard to improve our ISO rating, which could translate into lower homeowners insurance rates for everyone in the district. Rates have increased dramatically over the past year due to other driving forces and claims due to severe weather events. The Homesteaders Swap Meet will be held today ( Saturday) at the Capps Mini Storage on Old Capps Road just off Highway 392 West from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Check the Facebook page for what folks are bringing or looking for. Greetings from Capps. My apologies for missing last week as I was driving a U-Haul to North Carolina for my wife s sister. I learned that Tennessee is a very, very long state to drive all the way across, but it was the only one to cross after leaving Arkansas. It was also hot there and much more humid but I did get to the beach at Surf City. Upon returning, we were blessed with an inch of rain in Capps Sunday night and early Monday morning. I m extremely grateful for the tree trimmers coming a few weeks ago because the midnight squall Sunday night was the strongest wind I ve ever seen since moving here 5 years ago. Thankfully, it only lasted about half an hour as the front blew through and no damage. Capps Batavia Fire responded to a brush fire off Estes Road on Tuesday afternoon. There was a skid steer stuck in the burn pit but the homeowners had been able to keep it from catching fire until we got there and then got it unstuck once the fire was out. Greetings from Capps. Strong storms rolled through the area early Wednesday morning. It was quite a light show and some much needed rain. On a personal note, Diversified Lawn and Garden, where I have worked for the last 5 years, is closing for good on July 31. All plants are 50% off and everything else is 40% off so come on down and see me today or next week at 1925 Capps Road. I m still looking for a well to do older gal to hire me for some light gardening at a large salary so spread the word, lol. The Homesteaders Swap Meet will be held today ( Saturday) from 9am-12 noon at the Capps Mini Storage on Old Capps Road just off Highway 392 West. I d be there with my small round hay bales for sale but I ll be at work. I may have some there with me if you want a few. The Capps Batavia Fire Department has been working hard getting ready for our upcoming ISO certification. Our homeowners insurance rates are based in part on the rating we get so we ve been diligently striving to improve. Enjoy
