A number of former leaders from Western and Nyanza regions, some who have been in the political cold for over a decade, are plotting a comeback in 2022 General Election.
They are banking their hopes on the ongoing political realignments in the two regions and nationally.
The politicians are angling to fill the seats to be left by governors who are serving their final terms.
Such governors are Wycliffe Oparanya, (Kakamega), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), James Ongwae (Kisii), Okoth Obado (Migori) and Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay).
Some of the leaders aiming to try their luck in next year s General Election have been coalescing around political kingpins.
A good number of them have declared interest in the presidency, either for real or to raise their stakes, while others have kept off the debate as many more brood over the same. The prospects of one becoming a prime minister are beginning to open them to ideas of running for parliamentary seats.
But to get the prime minister position, one has to first contest for a parliamentary seat before being appointed by the president, according to the draft Bill that is being spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
But the announcement by Joho might jolt the undecided to make clearer their plans lest they miss out spoils of the first charge.

Politicians were caned for talking BBI politics during the burial of Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama on Thursaday.
Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri condemned some leaders who had begun politicking instead of condoling with the family and friends.
Ongeri, who remembered the late Nyagarama as a man of peace, told mourners that they should be thankful for all the help they had gotten especially from the National Government.
“I’m yet to see a funeral of this magnitude where the Head of State, ODM Party boss and the entire government machinery is involved. For me this is an indication of peace and goodwill,” he said.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called for peace and a united nation as he mourned the late Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama.
The ODM Party leader sang a Luo dirge and chanted,
Jowi! Jowi! described the fallen governor as a fierce lion.
Jowi is Dholuo for buffalo, in this case referring to the stature of the fallen man of repute.
“We have lost a brave friend, comrade in arms… He was a man of few words and loved development,” he said.
The ODM leader was also quick to remind Kenyans to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which he said is aimed at uniting Kenyans.
