a scary situation. and the rain was tremendous. oklahoma city about 7 to 8 inches of rain. water rescues ongoing. they had dive teams in one area trying to get to people stuck in cars. i m mazed we haven t heard of any fatalities from the storms. bad ones in kansas too that did a lot of damage. this was day one. this is a four-day severe weather outbreak with saturday being the worst. it only takes one to hit a town and be the worst. as far as the number and coverage of severe strong storms north of the dallas area. driving north, keep that in mind. here s the risk area today. we get severe in the morning. it s dying off. then it fires back up late in the afternoon and will continue into the evening hours. kansas oklahoma texas, this is the same area the next four days. it s not going to spread across the country much. we ll see, again, a few tornadoes again today likely west of dallas into northern texas. then we do it on friday.
today, we hope not to have losses. we hope to go through this event like yesterday where tornados are mostly harmless. as far as mow, there s not a lot of bad weather. we go through the afternoon. it s starting in north texas, going to spread to wichita. more heavy rain possible. there s a tornado threat, but flooding is deadly. more die every year from flooding than tornados. it rains this hard many days in a row, you re going to get flooding. kansas oklahoma texas, wichita. we have the orange color, enhanced severe storm. s this is the next category of danger. red is moderate risk. this looks on saturday to be a severe weather outbreak. we could see not just tornados but strong tornados on the ground for a long period of time. they re called long track tornados those in our country s history deadliest and most destructive. saturday is a dangerous day. oh boy. that s really an alarming
impressive event that s going to come out the rockies on sunday and monday. you can see that upper level low spinning across the rockies. that s one of the main ingredients we need. very cold air behind it. cold enough for snow across the rockies. and so our setup is going to be favorable. not only this weekend but monday into tuesday. there s the severe threat today with the enhanced risk across the ohio and tennessee river valley. up towards the carolinas. and then tomorrow the new system out of the rockies. oklahoma texas, dallas here. the threat continues into monday and tuesday. so we re ripe for severe weather. taking a look at your highs today. cold air across the west. very warm unstable air ahead of it. that s one of the main ingredients we need for severe weather. we re going to be tracking it throughout the day. mother nature firing it up. all right, janice thank you very much. there s much more ahead on america s news headquarters, including a stunning
