Food and beverage firm Nestle Malaysia officially opened a new Plant-Based Meal Solutions plant in the Shah Alam Industrial Complex in Selangor, Malaysia, the company announced this week. The RM150 million (about $36 million) facility is the company’s first of its kind in the ASEAN region.
Featuring a capacity of 8,000 tn/yr, the 600-sq-m plant includes new food processing machinery and automated packaging lines. Nestle produces the Harvest Gourmet brand of plant-based at the Selangor plant for the out-of-home-market and the site will soon start to produce a commercial range of offerings for retail and eCommerce sale.

Private equity firm Brynwood Partners VIII L.P. announced the purchase of frozen foods firm De Wafelbakkers from Anschutz Corp. subsidiary The Oklahoma Publishing Company this week.
Based in North Little Rock, AR, De Wafelbakkers manufacture branded, co-manufactured, and private label frozen pancakes, waffles and French toast for retail sale and food service outlets in the United States. De Wafelbakkers also distributes its products in Canada and Mexico, according to its website.

De Waffelbakkers - now under new ownership
US-based pancake, waffle and French toast manufacturer De Wafelbakkers has been acquired by local private-equity firm Brynwood Partners for an undisclosed sum.
The investor has bought the business from current owner The Oklahoma Publishing Company, a subsidiary of the Anschutz Corporation.
Based in North Little Rock, Arkansas, De Wafelbakkers is a manufacturer of branded, co-manufactured and private-label frozen products which are sold into both the mass retail and foodservice channels.
It operates a 100,000 sq ft production facility in North Little Rock and also manufactures products from its 98,000 sq ft facility in McDonough, Georgia. It employs around 650 people across its two plants and headquarters.
