Department of Health in Okaloosa County releases COVID vaccination data

By contrast, 42.2% of Okaloosa County s adult population had received one dose of the vaccine and 35.3% are fully vaccinated. Chapman provided an example from her own workplace to indicate the value of having a fully vaccinated staff. Last week . we had a case of COVID-19 in a staff member. This staff member thought they had allergies, and while seen by a provider, was not tested and was told it wasn’t COVID-19. Three days later, this person lost taste and smell and received a positive COVID-19 test, she wrote.  You cannot rule out COVID-19 without appropriate testing. Of the eight colleagues identified as (staff member) contacts in the Health Department, four were fully vaccinated and four were not vaccinated, Chapman wrote. The four who were fully vaccinated remained at work and monitored their health. The other four employees had to go home and quarantine. This crippled an important Health Department function for several days.

DOH and Health Hero Florida partner for worksite COVID vaccinations

The initiative, which will be implemented across the state, was scheduled to kick off in Okaloosa County on Friday morning at the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce office. The kickoff event had to be postponed, however businesses can still began scheduling vaccination visits immediately. Plans call for representatives from Health Hero Florida to visit various workplaces and administer the Pfizer vaccine to anyone who wants to receive it. The group will return 21 days after providing the first shots to give the second one. The vaccine can be given to anyone 16 years old or older.  Work staff, family members, colleagues and even friends are welcome to participate in the free workplace immunization program.

COVID Florida: Some Okaloosa County residents choosing not to get shot

While 40% of Americans have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine and just under 26% have been fully vaccinated, in Okaloosa County less than 28% of the population has received one dose and 19% have received both vaccine doses. For those over 18, 51% of Americans have received one dose and 33% are now fully vaccinated. In Okaloosa, a significantly lower 34.5% of residents over 16 have been vaccinated once and 24% have been fully dosed. Local seniors have done a far better job of getting vaccinated than those under 65, Chapman said. About 78% have received a single shot and almost 68% have been fully vaccinated. That compares favorably with the U.S. at large, in which 80% of seniors have received at least one dose and 65% are now fully vaccinated.
