Oil businesses abroad to places like saudi arabia and alberta, canada. Prof. Dochuk good morning. Welcome back from spring break and welcome back to our history of oil in american life. Today we are going to look at a critical phase between the 1930s and 1950s. A moment in which some important turns take place in the life of american oil. Two sectors we have been looking at, major oil and independent oil. This is a period in which the nation itself is kind of awakened to a new role in global politics. In 1941, it was famously stated that the u. S. Was entering a new era of global leadership. It was the American Century dawning in the early 1940
Crash in russia, killing everyone onboard . Cuba welcomes its first u. S. President in 19 years, we have all of the sports, including extending their lead at the top. A suicide bomber has killed himself and four others in an attack on a major shopping and tourist district in istanbul. Turkeys Prime Minister has condemned the attack, carried out by what he calls centers of terrorism. This has been the latest of strings of attacks. Another bomb goes off in turkey, this time in the heart of us tan bull, in the heart of the biggest shopping district. This street would have been packed with shoppers and visitors. Hundreds of people ran the moment a loud explosion was heard. Istanbuls governor was at the scene shortly after the blast. A suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the district government building around noon, killed three and wounded 21 others. Three of them were in critical condition. One of them just died in hospital. Though no one has taken responsibility, the government ha
Outbreaks. It does come at a bad psychological time for the stock market where confidence is going lower and theres a host of other issues including the spread of the ebola virus. Have the economies of the worlds peaked. It means its as far as you can go. It suggests its all downhill from here. Thats how i feel today. Dow dropped 28 points. Nasdaq dropped. So much seems to have gone wrong and is how off kilter. Theres a handful of stocks going along their merry way. The end of the quarter is a great way to assess peaks or we truly have no place to go but down. First we know the world is slowing perhaps slowing at a surprising velocity given the strong head of steam we came into the year with. What makes us so sure that things have slowing. Sometimes its obvious, commodities. Any commodity in sync with growth that has to do with putting things up, building things, expanding things is coming down. Im thinking iron oar, steel, theres been enough to keep it there. Lets take this decline of
Victim is or suspected victim is isolated and then making that phone call is really huge. In the long term before we started, before this virus hit, we were doing these water and sanitation activities with the government. And we were successful in working with over 350 communities on proper sanitation and proper hygiene. And that effort was incredibly successful. In all 350 communities which are some of the hardest hit counties, none of them have been effected by ebola. It really goes to show that if you make that long term investment, if you prepare the communities before it hits they have a huge it has a huge impact and prevents that from happening. I only wish we were able to hit all the communities in liberia before we were able before the virus hit. I wanted to ask if you would expand a little more. I understand it was something you said 70 of the transmissions were due to contact with people who had passed away. How long is a body contagious . My colleague was asking about the ro

I want to start this hour with a disturbing case, a rape case that happened in ohio. One of those relatively small towns where just about Everybody Knows everybody else and friday night football is king. The alleged victim in this case is a 16yearold girl. She was reportedly drunk and reportedly possibly unconscious when she was allegedly raped by two High School Football players. The alleged rape came to light through some shocking tweets, a cell phone photograph that reportedly shows the limp victim being carried by her arms and legs and online video that shows young people callusly laughing about it all. What if that was your daughter . But it isnt. If that was my daughter i wouldnt care. I would let her be dead. Listen to yourself. Im listening to myself fine. The two 16yearold Football Players are set to go on trial next month. The lawyer for one
