Share LEESBURG, Fla. – Freshman pitcher Allison Smith scattered just four hits over seven innings and Niki Carver hit her second home run of the year, but Ohio State (6-6) fell on Sunday to Northwestern (11-1) as the Wildcats scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to complete a 3-2 comeback. Smith, who was making her second start in less than 24 hours against the 23-ranked Wildcats, was up to the task. She fanned six Northwestern batters over seven innings and gave up no earned runs. Trailing 2-0 however, Northwestern scored three times with two outs in the top of the seventh. The first came in on a Jordyn Rudd RBI single and two more came around to score on a triple by Morgan Newport.

Briar Creek Invitational Next Up for Buckeyes

Kansas, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, Old Dominion, Penn State and UCF COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State heads to John’s Island, S.C. this week for the Briar Creek Invitational at Briar Creek Golf Club. This will be the eighth time the event is contested and the first since 2019 with last year’s event being cancelled due to COVID. Buckeyes Top Iowa, 7-4, Saturday in Minneapolis

Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with six runs, five of them unearned, and went on to defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes, 7-4, Saturday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. The win improves Ohio State’s records to 4-3 overall and in the Big Ten while Iowa drops to 2-5 overall and in the Big Ten. “We strung some hits together and hit the ball hard in the fifth,” Ohio State coach Greg Beals said. “They gave us a little help in the inning as well and we were able to take advantage of it.”
