Atassi errs in attacking Gov DeWine over litter campaign

Atassi errs in attacking Gov. DeWine over litter campaign Updated May 02, 2021; Columnist Leila Atassi’s recent attack on Gov. Mike DeWine for “hypocritically” promoting litter cleanups while not speaking out about coal plant subsidies is unfair (”DeWine throws away a chance to tackle climate change,” April 28). I agree these subsidies are despicable, but DeWine must deal with an insane legislature (which recently cost me a $100 registration fee for driving a hybrid car) who can’t even remove indicted state Rep. Larry Householder from office. This same legislature pressured Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton to leave, and subsequently passed a bill prohibiting the governor from enacting any future health protection orders. DeWine must act cautiously. I admired his leadership during the pandemic immensely and am willing to give him some leeway on this issue.

Ohio Rep Tim Ryan Enters 2022 Senate Race

Rep. Tim Ryan launched a bid for the U.S. Senate on Monday. Rep. Tim Ryan joined the race to succeed Sen. Rob Portman Monday, the first major Democrat to enter a contest already crowded with Republican contenders.  Ryan, who briefly sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2019, has represented Northeast Ohio in Congress since 2003. His Mahoning Valley district has drifted toward Trump in the last two presidential contests.  In a video announcing his campaign, Ryan tours the district in an SUV, visiting a football field and an empty factory. His campaign plans a “Workers First” tour of Ohio this week.
