Veterans’ Secretary Jon Santiago appointed National Guard Brigadier General Andrea Gayle-Bennett of the Swampscott and Lynn E.F. Gilmore Chapter 64 of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to be the Commonwealth’s first-ever Deputy Secretary of the Executive Office of Veterans' Services (EOVS) Monday.“There’s a woman named Sheryl Sandberg, and she wrote a book called ‘Lean in’ where she says ‘if you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat, just get on.’ I’m on I’m going to fully commit myself to this with my whole heart and all of my determination, ” Gayle-Bennett said.EOVS was previously housed under the state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services, but became its own secretariat office on March 1 in accordance with “An Act relative to the governance, structure and care of veterans at the Commonwealth’s veterans’ homes,” passed by the state legislature in 2022.
