Many of you are having to deal with children unexpectedly being at home and you are having to deal with worrying about how you will pay your rent or how to keep your families safe. We really appreciate that youve joined us here to talk about something that should be seemingly minor which is a government bureaucracy budget. But for us, nothing is more important than our budget. Because it is the only relevant statement of our agencys values and it determines how we use our very, very limited resources in order to uphold the public good. That i wake up to that i am most focused on as governor of the state of california. The number of people in icu and the number of people hospitalized in california. Those numbers represent our most urgent need in terms of keeping people alive and keeping people healthy and safe in california. It is incumbent that we prepare for a surge in the number of hospitalizations and icu patients. That 774 may be deceiving. Many of you think it sounds modest compared with what is happening in other parts of the country. That may be true but it is important to impress upon you that that number represents a quadrupling compared to where we were just six days ago. The number of people hospitalized in california, 1855 represents a tripling of where we were six days ago. It gives you a sense of the nature of the spread and the nature of the attack of this virus and the nature of our focus as it relates to preparing for this surge. Reporter first question is from jamie harp, associated press. To date, how many people experiencing homelessness have tested positive for covid19 . Thank you for that question. Im only aware of individuals who have tested positive at sites in the homelessness response system. Its a large system of care where people experiencing homelessness touch many different aspects. In the homeless responses to date, there are only three who have tested positive for covid. Those are the individuals that i discussed earlier. Reporter a followup to that where are they now .
