could simply be read to the grand jury without having to appear personally, so all of that leads me to believe. we just don t know what this indictment is going to allege, particularly in light of the fact that donald trump asserted his fifth amendment privilege in response to 450 questions. claiming that a truthful answer would tend to incriminate him. it s hard to believe that the district attorney s office doesn t have enough evidence and some of those crimes are to put into this indictment misty. how might trump s defense fight these charges even though as nick points out accurately, and we re going to keep reminding people we still don t know what the charges are. we still don t know what s in that indictment. but we do have some idea of the nature of at least some of the alleged offenses. how might they defend themselves? yeah nick made a great point, because we
ever to be indicted. it shows that the district attorney was not intimidated by the threats of death and destruction against him, by the attempts at congressional and interference, by, you know, the threats of protests, massive protests against him and he went forward with the case this is a breaking story there is going to be a lot of fallout. but how this impacts the presidential election, what kind of jail time or charges exactly donald trump is looking at there is going to be so much developing and i m going to be right after this rushing around capitol hill to see if there is anyone there to give live reaction. and if you need to jump, i certainly respect your priorities are to your paper, and you need to go do that tim, let me share something that was shared with me because bragg s office doesn t have the federal campaign
jury it s not the grand jury that will decide whether to indict or not. but we know the special grand jury did not believe that. because in the report, you know, the partial report that is made public, it was unanimous that the special grand jury said there was no fraud that changed the vote in georgia. so, they by definition, if they heard that, they obviously did not believe it that doesn t mean that they found that he also lied, but given what he s saying, the sort of natural followup is, where s the beef like, where s the actual evidence and you would say that to him, you would say that to giuliani, to anyone who is trying to get them to change how they recorded the votes. you re going to be like, well, what s what are the facts, given that 60 courts said no what proof do you have this is not this is something where you don t just get to have an opinion about what happened, you actually have to prove it up
can lay at his feet. russ, i want to ask you one sort of loose end in terms of the reporting that the new york times and nbc has, and tim, i take your point, i think those are good sort of pillars to lay down on this monday of what could be an extraordinary week so, here s what we have, here s what we know and we don t know, as andrew said, we don t know who goes into a grand jury unless the witnesses or their attorneys make it known. bragg s office doesn t make it known. so, well know kellyanne conway, hope hicks, jeffrey mcconney, david pecker, the former publisher of the national inquirer, we know dylan howard, the former national inquirer top editor who had been on the other end of this, keith davidson, who was one of stormy daniels lawyers, has gone in. we don t know what, if anything, allen weisselberg said about this case, do we have that right? i think that s right. i m not sure we know what any of
there s also congressional ethics office. there s a question about whether that office doesn t even exist in the new congress, or how much power it is going to have. do we know with that would look like, a professional investigation? so this is a really good question, it comes as part of the new rules packages that are being passed under the new leadership in the house. essentially, what sort happened is a number of according to the rules that govern his body, you need to have a certain number of board members. some of those need to be reinstated. they won t be able to reinstated for several months. in addition, there are special limitations placed of a number of staff that everyone can have. it seems like at least in the short term, this office, which is really kind of intended to be more responsive to citizen public concerns then even the health ethics committee, is going to be working on a pretty reduced budget so to speak.
