the reality is the program was already being unwound, it was going to be eliminated. it will take not only considerable amount of time for the process to actually go all the way to the supreme court, but also considerable amount of time if the president reinstates the program by hiring new staff, allowing the renewal applications to process. the reality is that daca was terminated and each state, 122 d.r.e.a.m.ers are being taken away from that protection. i think the president needs to act. of course we have a deal, we don t know how that deal s going to look like. details are still being played out. it s definitely not a bill of love. it is more like a bill of bitter love we are seeing. we will see how that turns out. we will see what congress comes up with. yesterday we watched that remarkable attempt to negotiate in front of the president and it was confusing to watch. i m sure it was confusing for a lot of republicans and ultimately democrats as well, because donald trump seemed
to stay is in many instances, properties with donald trump s name on them which is ironic. how many coincidences can stack up? i don t know. it s interesting because people go hold it, how can this be. russian women coming here, giving birth to american babies, babies who are then entitled to all the services and privileges of american citizenship. yet it is completely and 100% legal. it s in the constitution. if you are born here you are an american citizen. you know, they advertise in russia, when little pictures of american passports and say go to america, have your baby you have a package. you have a prepared story on this. let s watch it. we will talk about it when it s done. these russian women all came to miami to give birth. as a result, their babies are american citizens. that s right. russian mothers, american babies. i m such type of mom who want
non-violent prisoners with skills and a second chance. it is the latest responsibility on jared kushner s growing list within the white house. that also includes middle east peace. but this is somewhat personal for kushner. his father, a developer charles kushner, served a 14-month federal sentence. jonathan capehart is an opinion writer for the washington post and msnbc contributor and tim o brien is executive editor of bloomberg gadfly and bloomberg view, also an msnbc contributor, and the author of a donald trump biography. jonathan, let s first get to prison reform. this is something that democrats can get on board with. it s something people who did not vote for donald trump, didn t think donald trump would be their champion, can get on board with. do you think this could take off and move the feelings about donald trump in a positive direction among those who don t like him? okay. put the president aside for a moment. keep in mind that prison reform was something, and crimina
the white house on the same day. an issue of this magnitude must go through the normal legislative process. joining us now from washington, to take a closer look at this, national reporter for bloomberg politics and director of the d.r.e.a.m. action coalition and former latino outreach specialist. break down this court decision for us. i think what the court decision does is it puts on hold parts of president trump s decision to unwind daca. in other words, the judge said that president trump does not have proper legal basis or is not cited proper legal basis to throw off the people who are currently benefiting from daca protections of deportation and the work permits and they are allowed to continue renewing those permits. it did not say that president trump and his administration have to accept new applicants to daca. the important thing here to note
yesterday this is not amnesty. they need to convince people and make house republicans feel they are going to be able to survive a primary in their district. show some leadership. we heard senator lindsay graham say he really wanted it. quickly, democrats do want to put this into the government funding bill. if they do, should they try to shut down the government over daca? well, i think the democratic party needs to think about principle. they need to think about the base. they need to think about actual leadership. i think senator schumer will be critically important. but at the end of the day i want to give credit to donald trump. he does actually want to do something for d.r.e.a.m.ers. it s the despicable act of stephen miller, attorney general jeff sessions, who are trying to advance their extreme immigration agenda on the back of d.r.e.a.m.ers. this is where the president will be critical to a possible deal, a deal that will actually make it through both democrats and republi
