Box Elder police investigate text message that indicated an active shooter at Douglas High School News StaffMarch 1, 2021Local Active Shooter Scare BOX ELDER, S.D. – Box Elder Police are trying to find out who sent a 9-1-1 text that falsely claimed there was an active shooter situation at Douglas High School Monday evening. Box Elder Police said in a press release that the original text claiming there was an active shooter at Douglas High School was received by Meade County Dispatch at 5:32 p.m. Upon entering Douglas High School, law enforcement found no signs of an active shooter event. Some students and staff were present, but complied with law enforcement and were safe. Out of an abundance of caution, all Douglas School District buildings were searched and at 7:00 p.m., the all clear was given.
