UNESCO World Heritage Committee Names Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks to Prestigious List

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 named the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, a group of eight ancient earthwork sites in southern Ohio, to its World Heritage List. The decision by the World Heritage Committee was made by consensus at its 45th session in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The monumental earthworks were built 2,000 years ago by Native American communities.
