Afternoon with heavy hearts as the department mourned the loss of sergeant tom smith, a 23year veteran of the force. Were in shock, disbelief, were numb. Were grieving, and please give us some time. Smith was one of seven bart police, five undercover detectives and two uniformed officers doing a search of an apartment at the park sierra complex in dublin. While the officers were inside the one bedroom apartment, one of the detectives guns went off strike and ultimately killing smith. Apartment resident got a brief glimpse of Sergeant Smith as he was rushed away by ambulance. He was in the bed. He wasnt moving. No one else was inside the apartment except the officers so how and why the gun went off during the search is the focus of an investigation by the Alameda County sheriffs office. Coworkers. Paul chambers has the story. And you tell us that there was a juvenile that ate the dinner. We learned some of the coworkers took some of the food home which contained pot and the teacher unbeknownst gave it to one of their children who ate the pot also. Now well tell you we obtained this letter also that went home to parents today about the teacher. This is 47yearold teresa badger, a veteran first grade teacher here at turner elementary. This evening we spoke to parents who are surprised to hear that badger was surprised to learn someone laced food. On november 21st, badger attended a pot luck dinner. She brought food that had marijuana on it. Reporter the item made at least two of the people at the party sick. And they werent the only ones. One of the attendees took some of the food home and their 15yearold juvenile ingested this food and became ill. Still kind of flabbergasted and shes a great person and a great lady. Schedule and bingo. You are looking at video from a transit bus that captured a 70yearold man just before he gets hit by a dark suv. The vehicle stops and moves forward, knocking him out of the frame. What happens next is what shocks police. The driver got out, looked at the victim and a witness passing said is he okay and the driver said he is breathing. The driver got back in his vehicle, backed up and drove around the victim and drove away. This happened around 6 30 in the morning in hercules. Unbelievable. What kind of human being would do that . Its a caucasian male in his 40s about 62, 220 pounds and balding. The crosswalk on and offramp can be dangerous. Occasionally we get cars that dont stop. They get off the freeway and keep going. They honk at the people crossing.
