After five months of extensive renovations, The Picnic Basket in Santa Cruz has reopened with greatly expanded offerings (like a frittata panini with housemade sweet chile jam, and a Southwest Bowl with sweet potato, quinoa, pinto beans, and more) and seating options.
Libraries not only create easy access to literature but foster a love of reading through engaging readers in activities. As always, Aptos Friends of the Santa Cruz County Public Libraries has a bevy of activities, which are centered around Dave Eggers' "The Monk of Mokha" for this season's Our Community Reads program.
The annual Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Chili Cook-Off will be held Saturday. Tasting kits go on sale at 10 a.m. and tasting begins at 1 p.m. For $12, you get samples from six of the booths plus a People’s Choice ballot. Two types of chili will be offered: Red (con carne) and Vegetarian.
