Even if its claims were true and there is widespread skepticism over the accuracy of the vote count the United Steelworkers (USW) pushed its deal through with the votes of barely a third of its 10,000 members in the shipyard.
In order to shield itself from criticism, the USW has refused to call any meetings to discuss the contract, while at the same time having workers submit their votes by mail.
Opposed to any fight against the defense contractor, the United Steelworkers used its recent rally to intimidate workers and try to dissuade them from striking.
While the IBEW had until March 2022 to negotiate before the expiration of the contract, they opted instead to call a snap vote on the exact same contract workers rejected last week, knowing full well that they are sitting on a powder keg of opposition and that delaying a confrontation would only encourage workers.
