Researchers develop materials for oral delivery of insulin medication

Researchers develop materials for oral delivery of insulin medication Posted on A revolutionary technology developed within the Trabolsi Research Group at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) could dramatically improve the wellbeing of diabetic patients: an insulin oral delivery system that could replace traditional subcutaneous injections without the side effects caused by frequent injections. Using prepared layers of nanosheets with insulin loaded in between layers to protect it, the researchers developed gastro-resistant imine-linked-covalent organic framework nanoparticles (nCOFs) that exhibited insulin protection in the stomach as well in diabetic test subjects whose sugar levels completely returned to normal within two hours after swallowing the nanoparticles. Led by NYUAD s Research Scientist Farah Benyettou and Program Head of Chemistry Ali Trabolsi, the findings were published today in Chemical Science.

A plan for 2021: I get by with a little help from my books

A plan for 2021: I get by with a little help from my books Judy Christie, Shreveport Times © Courtesy Digital Minimalism My favorite book at the start of a new year is usually a big, blank sketchbook, which I call the Big Picture Journal. On its pages, as one year turns to the next, I write what I plan to do in the months ahead. Funny that. When I looked back at my “20 Things To Do in 2020,” a pandemic called COVID-19 had happened. Niece’s college graduation in Waco? Canceled. Cousin’s wedding? Postponed. Spring break visit by the kids and grandkids? Moved to summer. Then to Labor Day. Then put off indefinitely. Library talk on the Jersey shore? Moved online. And on and on.
